We're interested in more than whether the numbers look good. We look at how money moves through the business, where it is being generated, where it is being spent and where there may be opportunities to manage it more effectively.

Whether you're looking to improve profitability, invest surplus cash into the business, secure finance, expand your team, purchase assets or plan for your next stage of growth, we want your financial decisions to work towards the bigger picture. And where the right answer sits outside of accountancy, we don't believe you should have to navigate that alone.

‍Commercial thinking. Smarter money management. A network working together.

Why We’re Different
<

Our service is scalable and
‍keeps money in your business

The Equinoxed Process

Financial direction that moves with your business.

A Fractional Finance Director should do more than report on performance. We build the financial structure, information and insight needed to understand where your business is now, where your money is going and what it can do next.

Step 1

Financial Foundation

We get to know your business, financial position, systems and ambitions; including what you want your business to achieve for you long-term. We establish the financial foundations, reporting and information needed to give you greater visibility and a clear starting point for what's next.

Step 2

Build the Financial Function

We put the right software, reporting, processes and controls in place around your business. From management accounts and revenue tracking to budgeting and performance reporting, we make sure you have the information you need to understand how the business is performing.

Step 3

Ongoing Financial Leadership

Through an agreed reporting and meeting cycle, we provide ongoing financial oversight, cash flow forecasting, management accounts and performance analysis. We look at how your money is being used, where cash can be preserved and where it could work harder, while considering the wider economic and commercial factors influencing your business.

Step 4

Strategic Planning

As your business develops, we work with you on the decisions ahead, from investment, funding and recruitment to tax efficiency, remuneration and growth. We consider the impact on both you and your business, bringing in your wider professional network where specialist expertise adds value.

The Equinoxed Process

A fractional appointment is a working relationship that gives you clarity on your accounts' function. We proactively embed ourselves in your business and take responsibility for the outcomes.

Step 1

Discovery

We begin with a full review of your financial position, your systems and your reporting. This establishes what the business genuinely needs and, equally, what it does not.

Step 2

Building The Function

We put the structure in place, establishing the right software, the reporting cycle and the controls, and we agree what good performance looks like for your business.

Step 3

Ongoing Leadership

We work to an agreed cycle, typically monthly reporting supported by regular meetings, providing forecasting, cashflow oversight and the financial input your decisions require.

Step 4

Strategic Planning

As the business develops, we plan for what is next, from tax efficiency and remuneration through to funding, recruitment and growth, so each decision is made in consideration of the full financial picture.

Three colleagues collaborate at a round white table in a bright office; a blonde woman holds a pen, a bearded man in a striped shirt leans on the table, and a man in a grey sweater with crossed arms listens attentively, with papers, notebooks, a smartphone, and a coffee cup on the table.

More than reporting.

Financial direction without the full-time cost.

With Fractional Finance Director support, you get senior financial thinking and commercial direction without the cost of employing a full-time Finance Director, helping you preserve cash while still accessing the financial expertise your business needs. We bring management accounts, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, revenue tracking and financial oversight together to give you a clearer view of your business and how your money is working.

Equix
<

More than accountancy. A financial perspective around the table.

EquiX is designed for businesses that have outgrown traditional accountancy support and want greater financial oversight, without necessarily needing a full-time Finance Director. It brings together your accounting, bookkeeping and management accounts with a higher level of financial analysis and commercial thinking.

Management accounts provide the foundation, bringing together your Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and key financial information. We then look beyond the reports to understand profitability, margins, cash flow, expenditure, revenue performance and the financial position of the business as a whole.

The focus is on understanding how effectively your business is using its money and whether your financial resources are supporting what you're trying to achieve. That might mean identifying where costs can be improved, understanding the return on an investment, assessing the affordability of growth or considering how best to use available funds.

‍Because growth needs more than ambition. It needs financial direction.

CASH FLOW FORECASTING
<

Because profit isn't cash.

A profitable business can still run into cash flow problems. Understanding when money is coming in, when it needs to go out and what your future cash position could look like is critical to making confident business decisions.

Cash flow forecasting helps you look ahead rather than simply reacting to the bank balance. We can model expected income and expenditure, planned investment, finance repayments, tax liabilities and other significant movements to understand how they may affect your future cash position. It's also about asking what your cash could be doing for you.

Should it remain available as working capital? Could it support investment in the business? Is it needed for an upcoming tax liability or finance commitment? Could better planning give you greater flexibility? This can be particularly valuable when you're considering a large purchase, taking on finance, expanding your team, moving premises or investing in the growth of the business. It also gives you an opportunity to identify potential cash pressures before they become a problem.

‍Know where your money is going. Know what's coming next.

>
BUDGETING & REVENUE TRACKING
<

Know what you're aiming for. Know how you're performing.

A budget turns your plans into financial targets. But its real value comes from using it to understand how the business is performing against those expectations. We can help establish budgets and revenue targets around your business objectives, then use your management accounts and actual financial performance to track how you're progressing throughout the year.

For businesses with multiple departments, locations, services or revenue streams, we can look beyond total turnover to understand where revenue is being generated, where costs are being incurred and which areas are contributing to overall profitability.

Budget-versus-actual reporting can highlight where performance is ahead of expectations, where costs are increasing or where revenue isn't developing as planned. More importantly, it gives you the opportunity to understand why, while there is still time to do something about it. Good financial management isn't simply knowing how much money the business makes. It's understanding what is driving that revenue, what it costs to generate it and where the strongest opportunities lie.

‍Don't just measure revenue. Understand what's driving it.

FINANCIAL PLANNING
<

Your business doesn't operate in isolation. Neither should your financial planning.

The bigger the business becomes, the more financial decisions connect with other areas of your personal and professional life.

That's why we believe good financial oversight isn't just about looking at the accounts. It's about understanding the bigger picture, identifying opportunities and considering how your business and personal finances can work together.

Whether you're considering investment, taking on finance, purchasing property, extracting profits, building personal wealth or planning for the longer-term future of the business, we help you understand the financial considerations and how different decisions may impact both you and your business; and this involves bringing the right people into the conversation.

Sometimes the right financial decision involves more than your accountant. We work collaboratively with a trusted network of financial advisers, mortgage advisers and other specialist professionals, allowing us to connect the dots where financial decisions overlap.

Longer-term considerations, such as succession or an eventual exit, can also benefit from early planning. The decisions made today can influence the financial position, value and opportunities available to you and your business in the future.

‍Connected thinking. One network.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’re passionate about helping our clients achieve financial success. See if we have answered your questions below:

How much time would a fractional accounts director spend in our business?

This is agreed at the outset and reviewed as your business changes. Some clients require a full day each month with reporting and a strategic meeting. Others require considerably more during a period of growth or funding. The arrangement is built around what the business needs rather than a fixed package.

How does this differ from your advisory service?

Advisory support provides expert guidance at agreed intervals. A fractional appointment provides ownership of the finance function at the highest level. We take responsibility for reporting, forecasting and oversight of your internal team, and we act as part of your leadership team rather than as an external adviser.

If we have a bookkeeper already, is a fractional financial director needed?

In our experience, businesses with a bookkeeper benefit even more from our fractional finance director than those without. An experienced bookkeeper maintains accurate accounts but is not usually positioned to interpret them or challenge the decisions being made. We provide that senior layer, and support your bookkeeper in the process.

Is our business too small for a fractional finance director?

The service suits businesses that have outgrown basic compliance but cannot yet justify a full-time Finance Director. If you are uncertain where you sit, a conversation with us will establish it quickly. We would rather tell you the service is unnecessary than sell you something you do not need.
